What Your Creative Budget is Missing...
Budgeting comes easy to someone like me, but for many of my creative clients its a bit of a stresser.
Generally speaking a budget contains what you would think: your estimated costs to keep the lights on, pay employees, office supplies etc. See my quick and dirty guide for creatives:
You can compare how you do each month and see your progress and (like me) basically confirm that you spend too much on eating out.
But how does it get stagnant?
It's because your budget can have the same boring costs each and every month but what's missing is your WANTS.
WANTS: Things that are not necessary but could equal growth and meeting goals.
That additional piece of equipment for photography, the microphone you want for trying documentaries, the retreat (read about mine here) you've been wanting.
All of these things are actually vital for a creative business. Even if its just you and a computer, you must have WANTS to meet many of your goals and growth.
How do you go about this?
Make a list of these WANTS,
Number them by priority,
Put a $$ estimated cost next to them
Add them to the bottom of your budget
Then see how many additional sales, clients, etc. you'd need to make that first one a reality.
